In an alternate timeline that saw the Federation in a war against the Klingon Empire, the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D was a Galaxy-class warship under the command of Captain Jean-Luc Picard. Built entirely for military use, the Enterprise was heavily armed and carried no civilians but instead had the capability to transport over 6,000 troops.
The bridge of the Warship Enterprise featured a centralized captain’s chair positioned alone on a raised platform with two additional duty stations on either side and monitors along the walls. In keeping with the minimalist efficiency of the rest of the vessel, the bridge was lit only as much as necessary.

A 4’ model of the U.S.S. Enterprise was built by Greg Jein during the hiatus between seasons 2 and 3 of The Next Generation . The smaller model allowed the show to produce a greater volume of new ship shots for late-season episodes. For its alternate timeline appearance in “Yesterday’s Enterprise”, shots of the unaltered 4-foot filming model were used.

The U.S.S. Enterprise bridge set underwent a drastic transformation to become that of a warship. All chairs except the captain’s chair were removed, the side ramps were removed and replaced with steps in the center of the extended platform, additional duty stations and monitors were added, and the lighting was completely overhauled to give the bridge a dark, shadowy atmosphere bathed in a cold blue glow.
